Final Images

Here are my three best finished photographs that I have now edited in to black and white, as well as cropping them to more of a square format...

Connect 4 game

Guess Board

Larger Lighter

Over all I feel I have done very well to represent Diane Arbus' work, in my own style of working. I have done a lot of research and a lot of photo analysis, to help me see what Arbus' work is all about.
From doing this exercise I feel I understand Diane Arbus much more than I did before I started this brief. I have learnt a lot about her work and her life too. I feel I have really put my self into her shoes when taking these photographs and have got great results from this.

Conclusion so far...

I feel after all of these shoots that I have enough relevant images to Diane Arbus. I will now pick my three favourite photographs and change them all to black and white. This will help my work to be more relevant to Diane Arbus'. Also Arbus used a square format for her images, so I may crop some of my own images in this style.

Shoot 7

This shoot is of a small connect 4 game and here are a couple of my favourite images...

 ISO - 200
Shutter speed - 1/2
Aperture - F 11.0

This photograph is very similar to my previous shoot of the chessboard. This is a close up of the connect 4 game and I have again photographed it with my models hand in it, this helps exaggerate the size of the game. I have photographed my image at an angle and at the end of the tablet making my image look edgy and uncomfortable.

 ISO - 200
Shutter speed - 1
Aperture - F 11.0

For this final image I photographed the game further away so that I could get more of my model in and to exaggerate the space around it. This image is a lot more spacious and makes my photograph very lonely and uncomfortable.

shoot 6

This shoot is of a small chessboard and here are a couple of my best images...

 ISO - 200
Shutter speed - 2
Aperture - F 11.0

This first image is my favourite as I like the use of space I have used around the chessboard, this makes the chessboard look even smaller and makes my image look lonely. I have photographed the chessboard with my models hand in it to show how small it actually is and to add movement in to my photograph.

 ISO - 400
Shutter speed - 2
Aperture - F 11.0

I put this final image in as I like the angle in which I photographed it in. I got up close to the chessboard and pieces making part of my image blurry and uncomfortable.

shoot five

These two images are of my first shoot with the smaller objects, and here are my best ones...

 ISO - 200
Shutter speed - 1
Aperture - F 11.0

This is a photograph of a small camera keyring next to a larger photo frame. I put the photo frame there to exaggerate how small the camera is. I've also put the photo frame at the end of the self making the image look even more uncomfortable.

 ISO - 200
Shutter speed - 2
Aperture - F 11.0

This final image is of a large photo frame and a small one. I've photographed them next to each other so you can see the distance between the two, exaggerating them. I've photographed this image at an angle making it more edgy and uncomfortable.

Conclusion so far...

Since photographing the large lighter, I have had a slight obsession with objects that are smaller than usual. So I've decided to turn this into a theme, I bought a few small objects that I will use in my next shoots.
These will be harder to photograph as the objects are smaller, so I will have to focus a lot on my composition and angle of shot.

shoot four

After my last shoot I new I was on the right track but I felt like they needed to be re-shooted, so here are a couple of my best images...

 ISO - 400
Shutter speed - 2
Aperture - F 11.0

This first image has a good composition and I photographed it purposely next to the window to exaggerate that the darkness is in the room. However looking at my image now I can tell I have photographed it too light, making it hard to see what my focus is on.

ISO - 400
Shutter speed - 1/6
Aperture - F 8.0

This second photograph is my favourite as I feel my composition, angle and brightness is all spot on. I photographed my model in baggy clothes to add to the lonely effect. I've also made sure that you can see that the lighting is larger than it should be, to bring an uncomfortable feel to my photograph.

shoot three

For this shoot I went out and bought a big lighter, this is because I want my photographs to look out of place and feel uncomfortable. Here are a few of my best images...

 ISO - 300
Shutter speed - 2
Aperture - F 11.0

This first image hasn't worked as well as I hoped. The main reason why is because you can't even see the lighter as the models hands are covering it.

 ISO - 300
Shutter speed - 1
Aperture - F 10.0

This second image is much better as you can see the lighter much clearer. Also I've got closer to my model making it clearer of what my focus is. I like my composition and the angle in which I shot it at.

 ISO - 300
Shutter speed - 3
Aperture - F 11.0

This third photograph is still very clear as to what my focus is, but as you can see I've moved further back making my photograph look lovely, just like Diane Arbus' work. I used just a bulb light to make my photograph look yellowy and almost dirty.

After looking at these photographs I feel like I'm on the right track but need to reshoot them, thinking more of my background. I will also have to change my photographs to black and white and square formal to relate even more to Diane Arbus' work.
